Nashville eeks it out
Solid match between great teams
Uncharacteristically (and it's unfortunate for us to say this) we came out this match against Nashville ready to play. Usually it takes us time to get going where we weather the opposing teams storm for the first 10 minutes before settling into a groove; today however we came out and played from the beginning which was nice to see. With that being said, we did open the scoring but we didn't run away with anything. We played solidly on defense, choosing to put their kicking attack into the heavy wind and forcing them to run on us, but they were up to the challenge. They ran solid inside lines and their fast hands through the backline got them to the wing where they were able to score down the sideline not too long after our score.
They did a sound job against our attack and deserved to stay in the game, and while our unit was strong, we had 8 knock-ons in the first half alone which will stop anyone's momentum.
Nashville missed 4 penalty kicks but were still able to pull ahead in the last 10-12 minutes by 2 points. We made it down into their 22m line and won back to back penalties on the touch-line, but after a rule dispute arose with the referee, we chose to run the ball (since we were told we couldn't kick it out and get the lineout?) and didn't want to kick for points since the wind was now directly in our faces. After gaining some momentum, we put the ball on the ground and stalled our efforts once again causing them to win a maul turnover and kick the ball out to end the match.
Man of the Match award for us went to our first-time starter Mike Flynn who played an impressive match at blindside flanker, after earning his start through his consistent attitude and motor. He's a young pup but we see him growing into a force like his older brother.
Final score: 20-18.
