Old White vs Nooga
We're okay with the score
Heading into Saturday's match, Nooga hadn't played Old White in quite a few years, losing to them in the knockout round of the playoffs. Since then players have played together in 7s tournaments and that's about as close to rugby related as these players have come.
This past Saturday Nooga rolled down the I-75 and pulled into Old White's tucked away facility and tested out their new offense. In the fall, Coach Copper (Jeff Bollig) returned to head the squad and implemented his new style of offense. Copper took Nooga the deepest they've been in the playoffs --- the year they lost to Old White --- and the team was eager to see what he could do.
Early in the fall the offense wasn't coming together but at the end of the season the practices started churning really well as the players started realizing and grasping the concept. Today they were able to play it out against an actual defense and although the points weren't on the board, there were numerous chances and the phase play was the highest it's been for Chattanooga in quite some time.
In the end, after missed penalties and squandered opportunities by Nooga they remained scoreless, and with a surging second half start by Old White, the score ended up 22-0.
Nooga's leaders all commended their players for "winning that first half" and ultimately walking away with a moral victory, however in 2 weeks they play a must-win match vs Knoxville at home and they know they can't settle for any missed opportunities.
